College Football Playoff: Instant Impressions

At 4:30 Pacific, the College Football Selection Committee released their first draft of who they believe are the Top 25 teams in the nation. There were some surprises, some no-brainers, but the best part of the rankings being released was the first glimpse into the decision process of the CFB Playoff Committee. On their website, it is mentioned that the committee will emphasize head-to-head wins between teams, strength of schedule (SOS), conference champions, and record versus common opponents. The following are the rankings from the CFB Selection Committee and the AP Poll. The rankings on the left signify the new-era … Continue reading College Football Playoff: Instant Impressions

College Football Observations: Week 3

Top Four Teams Recap: Georgia played South Carolina in a heavyweight fight. USC East asserted itself down the field on the opening drive, and that pretty much dictated the tone of the game. Georgia did not look like an “SEC Defense.” The Georgia offense actually looked pretty good despite straying from the running game for part of the matchup. Georgia’s defense simply could not stop what South Carolina was dishing out. Label this game Georgia’s trademark loss on the season. Oregon looked good, it was against Wyoming though. They play Washington State next week…so… Texas A&M played Rice. Moving on. … Continue reading College Football Observations: Week 3

The Most Eventful Week of 2013

Well, it has been quite a week for sports hasn’t it? Undoubtedly, it has been the most eventful week of 2013. All my picks were wrong for the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs except for the New England Patriots beating the Houston Texans in a dominant fashion (hooray, I guess). Baltimore got off to a burning start to make sure Ray’s career didn’t stop at Mile High, Atlanta decided it didn’t want to lose by a point on a not-so-last-second touchdown by Russell Wilson, and San Francisco walloped Green Bay on the legs and arm of one Colin Kaepernick. … Continue reading The Most Eventful Week of 2013

Chip Forgoes the NFL..Again

Despite everything you have heard in the news the last month or so, a quite a few credible sources are saying Chip Kelly is staying firmly planted in Eugene. The Duck faithful had all but moved on to Mark Helfrich being the new head coach last Friday when sources leaked that Cleveland was finalizing the contract to make Chip Kelly their new head coach. The next day, sources reported that Cleveland had moved on to searching for a new coaching candidate and that Chip was talking to Philadelphia about their opening. Today, ESPN broke the news that Chip Kelly was, … Continue reading Chip Forgoes the NFL..Again

Looking Toward Life After Chip

So, it’s no surprise to anyone who knows me that I’m an Oregon fan. And it also wouldn’t be a surprise to anyone to hear that Chip Kelly takes a job with Cleveland/Philadelphia/Buffalo/KC/Arizona/etc. As a fan, I don’t think about Chip leaving and I would like to think that he’s an Oregon faithful much in the way Mike Belotti and Rich Brooks were. However, I am smart enough to know how the coaching carousel works these days. Plus, from some insiders in the Oregon athletic department, I know a little more about Kelly’s personality than he will talk about with … Continue reading Looking Toward Life After Chip
